The Tri-City Area Officials Association plays a crucial role in the development and support of sports officials in our community. According to the MHSAA Officials Guidebook, local associations are responsible for several key functions:

Recruiting, Encouraging, and Mentoring New Officials:

Our association actively seeks out individuals interested in becoming sports officials. We provide encouragement and mentorship to help new recruits understand the importance and responsibilities of the role.

Administering Local Training Sessions and Hosting Camps/Clinics:

We organize and conduct training sessions, as well as host camps and clinics, to ensure that our officials are well-prepared. These training opportunities cover rules, mechanics, and the latest updates in officiating standards. You can view all upcoming trainings here.

Ensuring Member Compliance with Registration, Testing, and Member in Good Standing Status:

We help our members stay compliant with all MHSAA requirements, including registration and testing. Maintaining a Member in Good Standing status is crucial for the credibility and professionalism of our officials.

Assisting with the Observation and Recommendation of Officials for Postseason Tournament Consideration:

Our association observes officials’ performance and provides recommendations for those who are eligible for postseason tournament assignments. This helps recognize and reward high-performing officials.

It is important to note that our association has no role in the assignment of games or matches. Assignments are managed by approved MHSAA assigners. Our primary focus is on recruiting new officials and providing comprehensive training to ensure our members are prepared for each season.

We are committed to continuous improvement and have incorporated constructive feedback from our recent survey to enhance the support we provide to each of our members. By doing so, we aim to maintain the highest standards of officiating and contribute positively to the sports community.
